at the heart of every path towards the healing and evolution of our relationship to ourselves and the world, is the simple and immaculate truth of the interconnectedness and unity of all life. at the centre of this unity, is divine light, which can be seen as the embodiment of all that is and is not. light is the infinite truth of pure being. in the year 1865, a japanese man named mikao usui discovered how to tangibly work with the celestial frequency of this light, by channeling it as a kind of energy through his body and into a chosen place. he discovered that this work contained vast healing potential, and began the first school of what he termed Reiki, which means universal life energy. those who learned to harness light in this way found the experience deeply rewarding, and since then many schools of reiki have branched out and taken their own unique forms.

my intentions over the coming 13 moons are as follows:

to keep promoting the elfintome thru flyers, posters, emails, business cards, encouraging links in other sites, posts and even linking to it thru articles (perhaps in well-read publications), my web site and coming star:seed publications. my approach to promoting the elfintome will, as always, come from the heart - i am passionate about sharing with others something that has enriched my life so much. i am also stoked to help with any graphik design work that sijay doesn't take on for promoting the tome or the umic. thru this promotional work i will round up circles within circles of co:inspiritors to help support the elfintome in a rainbow of ways thru my projects and beyond.

i am now working to facilitate sacred spaces in local toronto gatherings to set up the elfintome tribal market, thanks to delvin for sending me some phat merchandise to work with. over the next 4 months i intend to build momentum with that work, enriching the cultural and educational streams that weave their way thru the toronto rave scene, and preparing myself for sunrise celebration this summer soulstace in avalon, uk. the tome will represent here as part of a visionary art gallery and learning environment. i will be there to help facilitate this learning space, present workshops and take care of the tables, and will be helping to co:ordinate the visionary arts and culture area where we'll be planted.

this will be the seed for the next 9 months (and beyond) of work with the elfintome in other key events yet to be fully mapped out. over those nine months i plan to activate the elfintome presence more deeply as the grounding point for various kinds of learning environments within celebrations. the growing ecology of merchandise from art to crystals to sacred garmentry to books and other publications as well as music and free promotional or educational materials will act as a way of dimensionalizing educational streams and opening gateways into new worlds.

i see the toronto elfintome market drawing a great deal of attention to the tome website, and the umic, as well as opening countless portals for the promotion of friendly projects of kin across the earth. i would also like to present some levels of harm reduction outreach as part of most elfintome displays, and work to increasingly integrate these elfintome markets with the umic presence. in addition, i'd like to collaborate with other tribal merchants in the local scene to some degree - supporting local visionary artists and elvish crafters as much as possible.

the intention is to continue using the elfintome as a beacon of inspiration and hope in an emerging new world of visionary culture and
sustainable pathways.

trust me, this will have to do with language by the end.

OBSERVE

there is a lot of intelligence in mainstream culture, and a strong drive to become aware of injustice and unsustainable behaviour. this is characterized by a strong move to intelligently and very critically look at what is going on in world sociopolitics, industrializing nations and western government.

i've noticed in my work at this huge chapters branch, the strong points seem to be political science and history, art, visionary art mediocre but present, mythology and story, especially fantasy, SCIENCE, technology, and religion. low points include spirituality, self help, HEALTH, relationships and sex, business (ethics), and a slew of categories that are in my view *missing* altogether. The rest is somewhere in between awesome and sucking.

over the past ten years there have apparently been huge leaps in consciousness, and the past five years have been especially big for sustainable culture in the mainstream, especially in terms of awareness of the unsustainability. there is a willingness to learn.

the most intelligent writings are generally found in the most popular categories. the biggest two of these are fiction, and history/poli-sci.

TV feeds right into the most popular books and magazines. When Oprah recommends something, you can expect a huge influx of people looking to buy that book the coming week. Millions and millions of books sell because Oprah, for example, puts them on her official reading list.

mainstream consumers tend to put a huge emphasis on both convenience and entertainment. chapters indigo has been particularly successful because of its alliances, not just between bookstores but between the companies that create "lifestyle products". Because of this approach, books are "in".

there is an enormous amount of despair around what is going on environementally, and this despair causes a feeling of disempowerment in many. for this reason, i think, mainstream sustainable strategies get locked into "observation" of what needs to be fixed. there is a lack of solution based approaches, because of these emotional blocks.

people feel isolated and alone. the emergence of big cities as the norm, is causing an overall feeling of being alone in a street with hundreds of people. any kind of community tends to make people feel much more comfortable and open to new ideas.

INTEGRATE

because there is such a mainstream ability to produce good works for a hungry audience, i would say then that the goal should be to create the audience for the subjects that need improvement in this planet-time.

crystal and spore has the idea for sure, using media streams to "make sustainable culture seem really cool" (sijay). sustainable culture, indeed, has many levels of potential for becoming a lasting trend. in my mind, embedding the memes we are working with into our clothing, lingo, music, home decor and beyond is prime territory for the popularity of solution based strategies. Just like how Indigo is making their book money indirectly through their "gift and lifestyle" section (and in-store starbucks), we can popularize subjects like permaculture through our lifestyles.

For me, the reason elphinstone and to a lesser degree vancouver represents such an exciting culture, is because they have evolved this to high levels of sophistication. The koots are also doing a great job at it.

I think also, an important next level is to infultrate TV. This goes for all kinds of programming, from comedy shows to cartoons to travel, cooking, documentary, especially talk shows! Movies are pretty covered right now.

in my mind, language is one of the most important keys in these endeavours. the language of media, television, of course english. then there's the language of who we are and what we're doing. we communicate such important levels of the work by how much fun we manage to have and how. how cool can permaculture and sustainability possibly be, and how can we work to enhance and playfully explore that dynamic?

in other words, we are the language. how can we evolve our effectiveness as a vessel for the communication of an evolutionary memecology?

above all, the key is to look at not just how to create a sustainable culture, but how to create the tools to create a sustainable culture, and make those tools accessable, entertaining and interesting for people so that mainstream people can do it themselves. if people really can exhibit high levels of intelligence in certain circumstances, then let's provide the circumstances and direct the intelligence into exactly where it's needed.

understanding that people are not going to throw away the lives they have built, the strategy needs to be based on the common value of convenience... little ways for people to slowly but very surely develop a lifestyle that is sustainable without necessarily ditching the things they think are so important to them right away. focusing on what does work, rather than what doesn't.

because fiction and mythology are so huge, the strategy always should be characterized by a story to go along with it. i have a huge amount of respect for the mythmakers. story telling is a huge part of leadership of any kind, and mythology touches a deep chord, and has the potential to be extremely entertaining.

APPLY

it's the little things. *graciously* explaining to the person behind the counter that you don't want extra packaging, or napkins, or plastic cutlery, because there isn't enough room in the landfills for them.

taking the time, whenever you do something to help, no matter what it is, to explain to others what you are doing and why - exactly. collectively building a vocabulary and relationship with language that helps us to all do this every day in little ways, very effectively. the most sustainable memes make so much sense that they will rarely be argued. there is no need for debate - simply demonstration WITH explanation in a non:threatening way.

yet keep the debates flowing when they are constructive, among those who are developing sophisticated and critical perspectives around the issues. never stop fine tuning the approach. every single interaction can be a lesson for the next one, to roughly quote delvin. and when you collect a wealth of information, find ways to teach it to anyone who expresses an interest in learning it. keep the evolutionary memecology evolving and present, thriving at its nucleus so that it can be developed and spread by the mainstreamers.

take the time to look into the eyes of people who are not like you. look at them and smile, and show them warmth. this teaches them that you have something good to share.

get into the fun of being a part of this incredible evolutionary movement of elves and fairies, magicians and priestesses and beyond. have as much fun as humanly possible, dressing up like jedis, moving costumes out of the costume balls to the furthest degree you can, supporting the music, buying cd's, filling your house with art, being the artist in every thing you do. take part in intentional post rave gatherings designed to evolve this process, and take the spirit of those gatherings into every day.

learn the skills you need to be a proffessional elf (or whatever you are). set the sights in the highest realms of production and proffessionalism. be exceptionally good at having fun. have fun with every single part of who you are, and let people know exactly why and how you are going about it.

prepare your art with an awareness of the audience. take the time to design your work for its integration into mainstream culture, and look at the short term and long term impacts that it could have on mianstream culture and how, at various levels of its development.

communicate the wonder of an evolving post:paradigm, and communicate the communication of it as well.

silverbirch is 23 ... december 28th was a beautiful birthday. it was also the celebration of one month and one week without smoking cigarettes at all. I arrived home from work and was immediately lavished with love and cake and gifts :) my mom and sister katie were away, so i am holding my dad's cellphone in the pictures with them on the phone appreciating the experience from a distance.

that was certainly a very special day for me. i got a few really aupsicious messages for various people, opening gateways for some bright possibilities to come. i also felt very loved by my family that day... and work was cool too. everyone kept mentioning my birthday and wishing me a joyful day. it was soooo sweet :)

over the last month especially, i've become increasingly aware of the fact that as humans facing bright challenges and opportunities in this planet time, the most important key that we have is that of self-access. the more we can deepen our relationship with who we are as archetypes living in human realities, bridging the realms of soul and body, the more we discover our innate potential for the miraculous. we are building a pantheonic dream team in between the millions of inner selves and the one universal creation, and this is birthing our portal into a sustainable human culture on planet earth.
